Job Description
Purpose and Scope
The Fire Science Faculty member will design, develop, and deliver engaging learning experiences that align with course objectives and college standards. The role includes classroom instruction, curriculum development, student evaluation, and participation in professional growth and institutional service.
Essential Job Functions

Teach Fire Science Technology courses at various times and locations as needed.

Develop and update course syllabi in alignment with departmental and institutional guidelines.

Employ innovative and diverse teaching strategies to meet student learning needs.

Assess and evaluate student performance; provide timely feedback on progress.

Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community partners.

Provide student access through office hours, email, and other communication channels.
-
Participate in ongoing professional development and institutional initiatives.

Submit all required reports, forms, and grades within established deadlines.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean.

Physical Abilities

Requires significant physical exertion, including lifting 50+ pounds, climbing ladders, and operating firefighting equipment.

Work may involve crouching, crawling, or defensive movement under physically demanding conditions.
Work Schedule and Conditions

Work is performed in classrooms, labs, and training environments with typical fire service safety risks.

Must be available for classes at scheduled times and provide student support outside of class hours.

Uses general office equipment, computers, and specialized firefighting tools as required.
Required Qualifications
-
Associateās degree in Fire Science or related field OR a Bachelorās degree (or higher) in a related discipline with at least four (4) years of non-teaching, professional experience in the field.

Certifications required:
-
Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Instructor II
-
Fire Officer I
-
Firefighter Intermediate
-
OR equivalent IFSAC Seals: Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer I, Firefighter I & II, Hazmat Awareness, and Hazmat Operations

Commensurate with education and experience.
