Position Overview
Sierra College invites applications for its Adjunct Pool for Fire Technology instructors. The college maintains an ongoing pool of qualified candidates for teaching positions throughout the year. Applications remain active for two years, and interviews are scheduled as positions become available.
Adjunct faculty members play a vital role in providing engaging instruction, fostering student success, and maintaining the academic standards of the Fire Technology program.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development

Review, evaluate, and revise Fire Technology curriculum and course materials.

Coordinate with other instructors to maintain consistent lecture and lab content.

Ensure curriculum compliance with federal, state, and local standards.

Engage with public and private agencies to enhance curriculum relevance.
Lecture and Laboratory Preparation

Select and evaluate textbooks and instructional materials.

Develop lesson plans, syllabi, and multimedia teaching aids.

Integrate current literature and best practices into coursework.
Teaching and Classroom Management

Present clear, engaging lectures and lab sessions.

Use demonstrations, visuals, and real-world examples to enhance learning.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and orderly classroom environment.

Encourage participation and respond to student inquiries effectively.
Student Evaluation

Develop fair and effective quizzes, exams, and assignments.

Assess student progress and provide timely feedback.

Maintain accurate records and submit grades as required.

Uphold academic integrity and address violations of student conduct.
Shared Governance and Professional Development

Participate in departmental meetings, advisory committees, and curriculum planning.

Minimum Qualifications
According to the CCC Minimum Qualifications Handbook:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree AND two (2) years of professional experience,
OR -
Associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience.

Compensation

Lecture Rate: $77.44 – $98.98 per hour

Lab/Counselor Rate: $58.08 – $74.24 per hour

Maximum Salary (with experience): Up to $127.21 per hour
Adjunct faculty are members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) and receive applicable sick and other leave benefits per the collective bargaining agreement.
