Position Summary

The Associate (Adjunct) Faculty – Fire Science provides an invaluable service by bringing real-world experience and professional knowledge into the classroom and lab environment. Faculty members engage students through hands-on learning, lectures, and blended instruction methods across Cochise County.

This is a part-time, per-semester position reporting directly to the Director of the First Responders Academy.

Position open until filled; applications reviewed upon receipt.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position will:

  • Teach assigned Fire Science courses to a diverse student population in classroom and/or laboratory settings.

  • Develop, prepare, and implement lesson plans aligned with course outcomes and departmental standards.

  • Conduct pre- and post-assessments to measure student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Collaborate with fellow faculty and staff to assess instructional strategies and improve program effectiveness.

  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and course documentation.

  • Address student concerns and classroom issues within established college policies.

  • Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports academic success.

  • Participate in continuous improvement and professional development activities as required.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Certified Arizona Firefighter I and II

  • Certified Fire Instructor I

  • Minimum of three (3) years of firefighting experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of curriculum and program development principles.

  • Familiarity with current trends and emerging technologies in Fire Science and related fields.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and educational technology tools.

  • Ability to teach and engage students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and exercise sound judgment.

  • Commitment to confidentiality, equity, and student success.

  • Capability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is primarily performed in classroom or lab environments under general supervision.

  • May require evening and weekend hours depending on course scheduling.

  • Physical requirements include manual dexterity, clear communication, and occasional lifting (up to 10 lbs).

  • Sedentary work: primarily sitting, with occasional walking and standing.

  • Mental demands include attention to detail, emotional stability, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
