Position Summary

The Fones School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Bridgeport invites applications for a full-time, on-campus faculty position. Responsibilities include didactic and/or clinical teaching, curricular management and assessment, student advising, and faculty mentoring.

This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track position, and appointment to academic rank and salary will be based on scholarly achievement, teaching ability, and clinical experience.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach didactic and/or clinical courses in the entry-level on-campus dental hygiene program.

  • Support and advance the mission and objectives of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene.

  • Instruct a minimum of 15 credits per semester (fall and spring) and 12 credits during summer sessions.

  • Maintain current knowledge and expertise in the assigned subject areas.

  • Participate actively in program and institutional committees within the College of Health Sciences and the University.

  • Contribute to major campus events including Community Day, commencement ceremonies, and admissions activities.

  • Collaborate with other academic departments and administrative units.

  • Uphold safety standards and best practices in all teaching and clinical activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Dean.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational and industry trends.

  • Promote teamwork and cooperation within the department.

  • Support program initiatives that encourage innovation, quality improvement, and student success.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to foster a respectful and collaborative environment.

  • Experience or proficiency in online learning platforms, preferably CANVAS LMS or similar systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop students’ critical thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Visionary mindset for the growth and advancement of the dental hygiene program.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in a relevant discipline.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience at the college or university level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience providing similar knowledge and skills.


Licensure and Certifications

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Connecticut Dental Hygiene License, or eligibility to obtain one prior to employment.

  • Connecticut Local Anesthesia Certification, or eligibility to obtain certification.
