Job Summary

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) invites applications for a Full-Time Dental Hygiene Faculty position. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, competency-based instruction consistent with the College’s mission and educational objectives. Instructional responsibilities will include classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, with potential assignments in evening, off-campus, or online/distance learning environments.

Essential Functions

• Teach assigned courses following established course competencies and syllabi.

• Develop and utilize diverse instructional strategies and delivery methods tailored to different learning styles.

• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.

• Prepare and update course syllabi, outlines, lecture/lab materials, and evaluation tools.

• Clearly communicate course expectations, evaluation methods, and attendance policies.

• Work collaboratively with faculty and staff on departmental, college-wide, and program initiatives.

• Participate in committees, advisory board activities, student organizations, and college events.

• Monitor, evaluate, and document student attendance, progress, and competency attainment; submit related reports as required.

• Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students outside of class.

• Contribute to curriculum development, course revision, and instructional material selection.

• Advise students on academic and career matters and connect them with support services when needed.

• Promote the program through outreach, recruitment, and marketing activities.

• Engage in professional development to remain current in the dental hygiene field.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field or current enrollment in a related master’s program.

• Minimum of three (3) years of recent, non-teaching clinical work experience.

• Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH).

• Eligibility to obtain an Iowa Dental Hygienist license before employment begins.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Proven success working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, values, and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience utilizing alternative or innovative instructional delivery methods (e.g., hybrid or online learning).

• Experience in curriculum development and student learning assessment.
