Job Summary
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) is seeking a qualified and dedicated faculty member to join our Dental Assisting program. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, competency-based instruction aligned with the Collegeās mission and objectives. Teaching assignments may include classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, as well as evening, off-campus, or online/distance education.
Essential Functions

Teach assigned dental assisting courses in accordance with established course competencies and syllabi.

Design and implement diverse instructional strategies and delivery methods to accommodate varied learning styles.

Create and maintain an inclusive, safe, and respectful learning environment.

Develop, update, and maintain course syllabi, outlines, lecture/lab materials, and assessments.

Communicate course expectations, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies clearly to students.

Participate in departmental and college committees, projects, events, and advisory activities.

Track and document student attendance, progress, and competency attainment; submit related reports as required.

Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students as needed.

Contribute to curriculum development, revision, and instructional material selection.

Advise students on academic matters and connect them with additional support resources.

Promote the program through recruitment and marketing initiatives.

Engage in professional development to remain current in the field of dental assisting.
Required Qualifications
-
Graduate of an accredited Dental Assisting program and a Bachelorās degree (in any discipline) or current enrollment in a Bachelorās degree program OR DDS/DMD.

Minimum three (3) years of recent, non-teaching dental assisting experience, including four-handed dentistry.

Current CPR certification (Health Care Provider level).

Valid Radiography license.

Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Demonstrated success working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience using alternative instructional delivery systems (e.g., online or hybrid teaching).

Background in curriculum development and student learning assessment.
