Kennedy-King College is seeking a Part-Time Chef Instructor in Culinary Arts for the Washburne Culinary & Hospitality Institute. The College-to-Careers program at Washburne Culinary & Hospitality Institute prepares students for rewarding careers or advanced degrees in Culinary Arts through hands-on training, academic excellence, and industry partnerships.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process.

  • Inspire, motivate, and empower students to achieve academic and career success.

  • Use Brightspace (Learning Management System) to post materials and enter final grades online.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of classical and contemporary cooking methods and techniques.

  • Exhibit strong knowledge of culinary history and the cultural significance of foods.

  • Instruct and guide students in key culinary principles including cooking techniques, garde manger, international cuisines, restaurant management, and catering.

  • Apply strong mathematics and basic accounting concepts related to culinary operations.

  • Translate industry expectations into clear, engaging classroom instruction.

  • Assess student performance objectively using standardized evaluation tools.

  • Demonstrate and explain proper culinary techniques and procedures in a classroom or lab setting to a diverse student population.

  • Communicate effectively with students through both verbal and written communication.


Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) candidates preferred.

  • Associate in Applied Science Degree in Culinary Arts, Baking, or Culinary Management (depending on position) required.

  • National or industry-recognized certification in the culinary field required.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Five (5) or more years of professional experience as a chef.

  • Experience with Brightspace Learning Management System preferred.


Compensation:

  • Hourly rate: $35 per hour
