Position Overview

South Suburban College invites applications for a Full-Time Cosmetology Instructor to join our dedicated faculty. The successful candidate will train and guide students toward State licensure in Cosmetology in accordance with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) standards.

This position involves delivering hands-on and theoretical instruction in areas such as hair care and styling, esthetics, nail services, health and safety, and professional conduct, while also preparing students for their licensure exams. The instructor will collaborate with adjunct faculty and staff to support program promotion, community engagement, and service offerings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a 30-credit-hour course load with 5 office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Supervise and mentor adjunct instructors within the Cosmetology program.

  • Guide students through licensure preparation and requirements.

  • Organize and participate in program outreach, including college and community events.

  • Actively promote Barber/Cosmetology programs and strengthen community partnerships.

  • Engage in college-wide initiatives and departmental assessment activities.

  • Foster connections with local grammar and high school districts.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair or administration.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Active Illinois Cosmetology Instructor License (required).

  • 2–3 years of teaching experience in an accredited Cosmetology program.

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.


Compensation and Benefits

This is a 9-month full-time faculty position.
Salary will be determined by placement on the faculty salary schedule, commensurate with education and experience.

Employee benefits include:

  • $15,200 annual flexible health benefit

  • 12 medical and 3 personal leave days (earned within the first year)

  • 16 holidays and 5 winter break days

  • 4-day summer workweek
