Adjunct Instructor – Cosmetology

Position Objective
Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Adjunct Instructor to teach in our Cosmetology Program. The ideal candidate will foster a supportive learning environment for adult learners and help prepare students for success on the Hair Design and Cosmetology licensure exams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Classroom and Salon Instruction

  • Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction using diverse teaching methods.

  • Develop, implement, and update curriculum to meet program learning outcomes.

  • Maintain and manage classroom, lab, and salon environments, ensuring safety and professionalism.

  • Create lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with industry standards.

  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback on student performance and assessments.

  • Record and report student grades, attendance, and licensure hours accurately and on schedule.

  • Supervise students in the program’s on-site salon, ensuring compliance with state regulations.

  • Promote professionalism and model employability skills expected in the cosmetology field.

  • Offer guidance for career planning and job placement.

2. Program and College Support

  • Hold regular office hours for student advising and mentorship.

  • Participate in program assessment and curriculum improvement activities.

  • Promote the cosmetology program through outreach and engagement within the college community.

  • Maintain open communication with students, staff, and administration.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Washington State Cosmetology Instructor’s License.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as a cosmetologist.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, scheduling software, and instructional technologies.

  • Willingness to teach and develop coursework in online and hybrid learning environments.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the learning environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching or instructional experience.

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning tools.

  • Proven ability to adapt teaching methods to serve students from diverse backgrounds.
