Position Overview
South Suburban College invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty position in the Building Construction & Industrial Technology department. This part-time teaching role focuses on residential building design and energy efficiency. The successful candidate will guide students through designing homes that are safe, comfortable, and energy efficient, while integrating key building science and sustainability principles.
Responsibilities

Instruct students in home design fundamentals with a focus on energy efficiency.

Teach students to identify and evaluate various insulation materials, heating systems, windows, doors, solar systems, and heat pumps.

Demonstrate methods to calculate heat gain and loss in residential structures.

Guide students in determining annual heating costs for different types of homes.

Utilize the John Krigger & Chris Dorsi, Saturn Energy Auditor Field Guide (2011 or latest edition) as a primary course reference.

Ensure students understand and apply R-values and U-values for various building components.
Qualifications
Required
-
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or industry-related certification.

3–5 years of professional experience in the construction or building technology field.

Demonstrated ability to calculate heat loss/gain and total energy performance for residential buildings.
Preferred
-
College or commercial teaching experience.

Proficiency in applying modern energy efficiency standards and residential building science concepts.
