Position Overview

The University of Minnesota’s College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS) invites applications for Adjunct/Part-Time Teaching Specialists in the Construction Management (CMGT) program within the Undergraduate Applied and Professional Studies (uAPS) unit.

Teaching Specialists provide high-quality, competency-based instruction for Construction Management courses and contribute to curriculum development, program initiatives, and professional growth. Appointments are typically made on a semester-by-semester basis, with teaching opportunities available during full (14-week) or half (7-week) terms. Some elective courses rotate on a biennial schedule.

This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, allowing instruction both in-person and online, depending on course format and program needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging instruction in assigned CMGT courses.

  • Update and maintain course materials as needed.

  • Support program initiatives and participate in professional or curriculum development activities.

  • Collaborate with the instructional design and technology team for course setup and delivery using the Canvas platform.

Courses may cover areas such as:

  • Contracts and legal/ethical issues

  • Project planning, scheduling, and estimating

  • Safety and loss control

  • Sustainability and building systems

  • BIM (Building Information Modeling)

  • Cost accounting and LEAN construction

  • Building codes, materials, and structures

Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a closely related field.

  • Six or more years of professional experience in construction management or a related discipline.

  • Three or more years of experience in your area of teaching expertise.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Construction Management or a related field.

  • Teaching experience in higher education or professional training.

  • Five or more years of industry experience in your area of specialization.

Desired

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in Construction Management or Adult Higher Education.

  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.

  • Strong understanding of applied pedagogy that integrates theory with professional practice.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay Rate: $2,437 per credit hour.
