Job Summary
Des Moines Area Community College seeks a qualified full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, competency-based instruction in Construction and Building Trades. Teaching responsibilities include classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction aligned with the College’s philosophy and educational objectives. Assignments may involve evening or off-campus teaching, individualized or competency-based instruction, and online/distance learning.
Essential Functions
-
Teach assigned courses according to established syllabi and competencies.

Develop and implement diverse instructional strategies and delivery methods that address varying student learning styles.

Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.

Prepare and maintain current course materials, syllabi, and lecture/lab content.

Clearly communicate course requirements, evaluation methods, and attendance policies to students.

Collaborate collegially within the academic environment, participating in program and college initiatives, events, and committees, including advisory activities and student organizations.

Monitor and document student progress, attendance, and competency attainment; submit required reports promptly.

Maintain office hours and provide academic support to students outside of class.

Participate in the ongoing development and revision of curriculum, competencies, and instructional materials.

Advise students academically and refer them for additional support when needed.

Promote the Construction and Building Trades program through outreach and recruitment activities.

Engage in professional development and stay current with industry standards and educational practices.
Required Qualifications
-
Associate degree or diploma in the subject area OR completion of a U.S. Department of Labor-recognized four-year journeyman carpenter apprenticeship.

Minimum of three years of non-teaching, related work experience.

Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications

Experience utilizing alternative instructional delivery systems to enhance student learning.

Background in curriculum development and learning assessment.
