Position Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at The Ohio State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professional Practice Professor appointment in Nuclear Engineering. The position is available beginning Fall 2026 and offers the option of a 9-month (9/12) or 12-month (12/12) appointment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the nation’s leading engineering programs and play a pivotal role in expanding Ohio State’s growing nuclear engineering initiatives, including the development of a new undergraduate degree program to complement its existing graduate offerings.

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Ohio State (visit https://mae.osu.edu/) is home to world-class faculty and cutting-edge research across multiple disciplines. The Nuclear Engineering program offers a dynamic environment for innovation in education, research, and professional practice.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to teaching and curriculum development in the Nuclear Engineering program (approximately 75% of the role).

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in theoretical, experimental, and computational nuclear engineering.

  • Support the creation and accreditation of a new undergraduate degree in Nuclear Engineering.

  • Conduct scholarly or professional activities consistent with the department’s Educator Pathway or Practitioner Pathway outlined in the Department Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) document.

  • Provide service and mentorship to students, the university community, and the broader professional field.


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • A Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related engineering/science discipline; or a Master’s degree with 25 years of relevant professional experience.

  • A demonstrated record of teaching, service, or research aligned with Ohio State’s Shared Values.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary academic or industry settings.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience developing new nuclear engineering courses or curricula.

  • Research or professional expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) applications within nuclear systems.

  • Experience in academic instruction, mentoring, or professional training environments.
