Salary: ÂŁ72,692 - ÂŁ81,393 (initial placement likely at the starting point of the scale, subject to experience)
Plus: ÂŁ8,000 International Teaching Payment granted on completion of a successful probation for the Teaching Lead
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Contract Type: Fixed Term – 36 months


THE POST – Teaching Lead, The Scotland Academy, Wuxi Taihu University (WTU), China

The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is seeking an experienced and collaborative academic leader to lead its innovative partnership with Wuxi Taihu University. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of transnational education while living and working in a dynamic, culturally rich environment.

You will provide academic leadership and operational management for our programmes and staff in China, ensuring excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student experience.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences, you’ll act as the key operational link between UWS and WTU. The Teaching Lead will offer strong, dynamic, and inspirational leadership while playing a critical role in developing high-quality education to support the school’s international growth strategy.


Programmes Offered by The Scotland Academy and UWS Partnership

  • BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security

  • BEng (Hons) in Engineering Management

  • BSc (Hons) in Web and Mobile Development

The post holder will reside in China and act as the key operational link between The Scotland Academy and the University of the West of Scotland.


Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Computing or Cyber Security

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

  • Academic line management experience

  • Successful record of academic leadership and management in a university or relevant context

  • Experience integrating education, research, and knowledge exchange

  • Knowledge of academic quality assurance and enhancement systems

  • Experience in inclusive curriculum development promoting equality and innovation

  • Experience developing innovative methods of subject delivery

  • Experience managing academic change

  • Active involvement in relevant subject networks/professional organisations

  • Effective planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills

The University will support candidates with the necessary work permits to work in China.

Remuneration Package

  • Salary Range: ÂŁ72,692 - ÂŁ81,393 (based on experience)

  • International Teaching Payment: ÂŁ8,000 (after successful probation)
