Position Overview
The University of Kansas (KU), Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (CEAE), invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) with an emphasis on construction safety. The successful candidate will also serve as the Director of the Craig and Diane Martin National Center for Construction Safety (NCCS).
Successful candidates are expected to:

Develop and sustain a high-impact, interdisciplinary research program.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.

Provide leadership and contribute to KU’s research and educational mission.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. before the appointment start date.
About the Department
The CEAE Department (https://ceae.ku.edu/) includes:

24 tenured/tenure-track faculty

5 teaching professors/professors of practice

Approximately 350 undergraduate and 150 graduate students

About the Craig & Diane Martin National Center for Construction Safety
Founded in 2019, the NCCS (https://nccs.ku.edu/) advances construction safety through research, instruction, and community engagement. The center collaborates with multiple corporate partners and academic departments to promote proactive safety management research and leadership.

Job Description
Teaching (40%)
-
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management and engineering.
-
Develop new courses and contribute to curriculum development.
-
Supervise and mentor students at all academic levels.
Research (40%)
-
Conduct and publish research in construction safety.
-
Secure external research funding.
-
Supervise M.S. and Ph.D. students.
-
Present research at national and international conferences.
Service/Administrative (20%)
-
Lead and expand NCCS programs.
-
Engage with industry partners to address safety challenges.
-
Host the NCCS Annual Construction Safety Conference.
-
Participate in departmental, school, and university committees.
-
Provide professional service at the national and international level.
Required Qualifications
For all levels:
-
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field (by appointment start date).

Demonstrated research qualifications in construction safety.
-
Evidence of effective teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
-
Strong communication and leadership skills.
For Associate Professor level:
-
Sustained record of scholarship and research in construction safety.
-
National recognition in the field.
-
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
-
Minimum of five years of post-Ph.D. experience in academia or industry.
For Professor level:
-
Sustained record of impactful research and leadership.
-
National and international recognition in the field.
-
Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary teams.
-
Minimum of ten years of post-Ph.D. experience in academia or relevant industry practice.
