About the Position

The College of Engineering at Temple University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The new Chair will provide dynamic leadership, fostering excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. The successful candidate will advance the department’s vision and strategic direction, driving curriculum development and expanding research opportunities in civil and environmental engineering.


Key Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Dean of the College of Engineering.

  • Enhance the teaching, research, and service missions of the department.

  • Lead strategic planning and set long- and short-term goals for academic growth and visibility.

  • Foster curriculum innovation to prepare students for modern engineering challenges.

  • Manage departmental budgets and coordinate financial planning with the Dean’s office.

  • Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and research-driven environment for faculty and students.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Tenured Associate or Full Professor rank (or equivalent) at the time of appointment.

  • Proven leadership experience in academia, research, or administration.

  • Established record of funded research and scholarly publications.

  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and student mentorship.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and research.

About the Department

The Department currently includes:

  • 13 full-time faculty, 15 adjunct professors, and approximately 300 students.

  • Undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Technology.

  • Graduate programs offering M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

  • A Graduate Certificate in Stormwater Management.

  • The department also hosts the NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) for Water and Environmental Technology (WET).
