Position Overview

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at UMass Lowell invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medical Device Development.

The selected candidate will work on the design, prototyping, and validation of advanced wound-healing technology, supported by the Defense Health Agency through the U.S. Combat Casualty Care Research Program. The project is conducted in collaboration with researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test prototype medical devices for skin wound healing applications.

  • Develop testbeds and collect performance data.

  • Deploy prototype systems at pre-clinical sites, train staff, and provide engineering support.

  • Maintain detailed engineering documentation and technical records.

  • Contribute to research publications, conference abstracts, and project reports.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • At least five years of relevant design and prototyping experience (including graduate research).

Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:

    • Control systems

    • Mechanical/electromechanical design

    • Rapid prototyping and miniature sensor development

    • Electronic circuit design

    • CAD (Computer-Aided Design)

    • Programming in LabVIEW and LabVIEW Real-Time


Preferred Qualities

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong documentation, communication, and project management skills.


Working Conditions

  • Travel to the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus is required.
