Position Summary

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (BHI) in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at Indiana University Indianapolis (IU Indianapolis) invites applications for Lecturer appointments in the Biomedical Engineering Program.

We seek exceptional instructors to join a rapidly growing department committed to innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student success.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the Biomedical Engineering Program across traditional classrooms, computer labs, and online formats.

  • Develop and enhance curriculum, learning activities, and program goals.

  • Contribute to program marketing, recruitment, and student advising.

  • Participate in scholarly activity and serve on departmental and school committees.

  • Maintain current expertise in the field through collaboration, research, and professional engagement.

  • Support departmental growth and excellence through mentorship and leadership in teaching innovation.

Lecturers may apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer and subsequently to Professor of Teaching, upon meeting the school and campus criteria for teaching excellence and service.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. or M.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline

    • OR a Master’s degree (MS/MPH/MBA) with 10+ years of professional experience in Biomedical Engineering

Preferred Experience/Expertise Areas:

  • Biomedical device engineering

  • Biomedical systems design

  • Mobile and wearable health technology

  • Imaging technology

  • Bio-nanotechnology

  • Engineered tissue or organ design

  • Regulatory processes, device quality control/testing, and biomedical analytics


About the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (BHI)

The BHI Department houses a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of 11 faculty and 300+ students across programs in:

  • Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Informatics (BMI), and Health Information Management (HIM)

Degree offerings include:

  • B.S. in HIM and BMI

  • M.S. in Health Informatics and Bioinformatics

  • Seven graduate certificates

  • Ph.D. in Informatics (Health & Biomedical Informatics Track / Bioinformatics Track)

Biomedical Engineering degree programs are currently under development.

Faculty research is externally funded by organizations such as NIH, NSF, PCORI, VA, and AHRQ and focuses on areas like:

  • Clinical and health informatics

  • Systems interventions and community research
