Position Overview

Peru State College’s School of Professional Studies invites applications for an Instructor or Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice with a focus on Criminal Justice and Sociology. The position involves teaching a 12-hour load per semester, including both on-campus and online courses, mentoring students, engaging in professional development, and contributing to campus life.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate criminal justice and/or sociology courses on campus and online

  • Advise and mentor students

  • Participate in departmental, college, and campus activities

  • Engage in professional development and contribute to the academic discipline

  • Implement effective student engagement strategies in and outside the classroom

  • Support a diverse student population, including many first-generation college students


Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, or related area

  • At least 15 graduate credit hours in criminal justice or sociology

  • Experience with online and classroom teaching

  • Commitment to student success and engagement, especially for underrepresented students

Preferred:

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in criminal justice, sociology, or related area

  • Professional experience in criminal justice or law enforcement

  • Eligibility for tenure-track position (completion of terminal degree required)

Notes:

  • Candidates with a master’s degree and significant professional experience may be considered for an instructor-level appointment
