The American Studies/Media & Communications Department at SUNY Old Westbury invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach courses on an as-needed basis. The department offers a B.A. in Black Studies and provides courses that fulfill general education requirements across the College.
We are currently seeking qualified adjunct faculty for Spring 2026 to teach foundational courses in African American history and culture, including:

Introduction to African American Studies

African Americans in Mass Media
-
U.S. Social Movements
-
Additional relevant courses based on the candidateās specialization
Candidates with experience teaching in hybrid or online modalities are encouraged to highlight this in their application.
Minimum Requirements

Masterās degree in Black Studies, American Studies, American History, or a closely related field

Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Black Studies, African American history, and/or the African diaspora
Preferred Qualifications
-
Prior teaching experience in Black Studies or African diaspora courses
-
Experience teaching or mentoring a diverse, working adult student population
