Position Description

The Department of Italian Studies and the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò at New York University invite applications for two Tiro a Segno Fellowships in Italian American Studies. These visiting fellowships are expected to be offered during:

  • Fall 2026: September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026

  • Fall 2028: September 1, 2028 – December 31, 2028

Both appointments are contingent upon administrative and budgetary approval.

The field of specialization is open, and the department especially welcomes applicants in history, visual culture, anthropology, religious studies, and cultural studies.

This fellowship is open to established academics of any rank with demonstrated expertise and a solid publication record in Italian American Studies. Selected fellows will be appointed for one semester at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, or Visiting Professor.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach two courses: one undergraduate and one graduate.

  • Deliver two public lectures sponsored by the Tiro a Segno Foundation.

  • Engage with the intellectual and cultural community of Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and the NYU Department of Italian Studies.

Recent fellowship courses have explored topics such as Italian-American labor history, film, literature, and immigration history.


Pay Transparency

In accordance with the NYC Pay Transparency Act, the salary for this fellowship is $45,000.
NYU evaluates factors such as job responsibilities, experience, education, key skills, market conditions, peer equity, and organizational needs when extending an offer.


Qualifications

  • Open to scholars of any rank.

  • Demonstrated expertise and a publication record in Italian American Studies, broadly defined.
