Overview:
Santa Fe College (SF) seeks a full-time Department Chair for the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, which includes Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The Chair provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the department while promoting excellence in instruction, student engagement, and faculty development. This role ensures alignment of programs with college goals, accreditation standards, and regional workforce needs.
Responsibilities:

Develop and articulate departmental vision, goals, and strategic initiatives in line with college mission and values.

Lead curriculum development, program review, and assessment of student learning outcomes.

Promote best practices in instruction and engagement; monitor emerging trends in the disciplines.

Manage faculty and staff hiring, development, evaluation, and scheduling.

Oversee departmental budgets, resources, facilities, and grants.

Act as liaison with industry partners, advisory boards, and community stakeholders.

Resolve student concerns, support enrollment management, and facilitate registration processes.

Maintain compliance with accreditation and state/federal regulations.

Teach at least one course every other year unless exempted by the Provost.
Qualifications:
Required:
-
Master’s degree in one of the department’s disciplines.

Relevant work experience in higher education.

Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred:

Managerial experience in higher education.

Teaching experience at the college level.
