Position: Assistant Program Director – General Surgery Residency
Type: Part-Time / Adjunct (20 hours per week, benefits eligible)

Overview:
The Assistant Program Director (APD) supports the Program Director in leading, administrating, and enhancing the ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency Program. This role emphasizes surgical education, resident mentorship, curriculum development, and program compliance.

Responsibilities:
Educational Leadership

  • Develop and enhance the residency curriculum, including conferences and didactic sessions.

  • Lead the McEwen Visiting Professor Conference series.

  • Facilitate resident educational sessions, mock oral board exams, and research projects.

  • Mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.

Resident Oversight & Support

  • Evaluate resident performance, provide feedback, and conduct milestone assessments.

  • Assist in technical skills training through simulation labs.

  • Participate in recruitment and selection of residents.

Program Operations

  • Ensure ACGME and RRC compliance.

  • Organize resident clinical rotations and program administration.

  • Participate in internal/external program reviews and strategic planning.

Professional Engagement

  • Attend 1–2 national/regional professional meetings annually.

  • Contribute to scholarly presentations and publications.

Qualifications:

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution.

  • Board certification in General Surgery or approved surgical subspecialty.

  • Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Kansas.

  • Hospital privileges at Wesley Healthcare and/or Ascension Via Christi.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching medical students/residents and leadership in academic or clinical settings.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in surgical education.

  • Experience enhancing a surgical residency program.

  • Strong knowledge of the ABS certification process.
