Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead and advance clinical informatics initiatives within the Department of Emergency Medicine. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading informatics strategy and implementation efforts across the department

  • Working collaboratively with IT teams to enhance electronic health record (EHR) functionality and clinical decision support tools

  • Analyzing clinical data to improve workflows, operational efficiency, and patient safety

  • Providing clinical expertise for system upgrades, informatics innovations, and technology adoption

  • Training and supporting clinical staff in informatics tools, workflows, and optimization

  • Conducting research in emergency medicine informatics and contributing to scholarly output

  • Serving as a liaison between clinical, academic, and technology teams

  • Developing and maintaining evidence-based clinical protocols integrated within digital systems

Required Qualifications

  • MD degree with completed residency training in Emergency Medicine

  • Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia

  • Clinical informatics fellowship training or equivalent experience

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to promote a culture of respect, professionalism, and civility among diverse faculty, staff, and students—or a commitment to do so as a VCU employee

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in Clinical Informatics

  • Experience working with Epic or comparable EHR platforms

  • Research experience in healthcare informatics

  • Project management background

  • Advanced degree in informatics, health administration, or a related field

  • Teaching or mentoring experience
