Position Overview

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Family and Community Medicine invites applications for full-time faculty physicians to join a growing and mission-driven department. We seek individuals committed to outstanding patient care, excellence in medical education, and advancing science through meaningful scholarly work.

Faculty in this role will play an integral part in delivering high-quality clinical services while participating in academic activities that support the department’s continued growth and innovation.


Academic and Clinical Opportunities

In addition to providing direct patient care, faculty will have opportunities to engage in:

Medical Education

  • Teaching within the medical school curriculum

  • Training residents and fellows in Family Medicine

  • Playing a central role in establishing the new Family Medicine Residency Program at UAB Marshall Medical Center, expected to launch within the next three years

  • Supporting curriculum development, accreditation processes, resident recruitment, and mentorship

Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Conducting research within an institution that secured $774.5 million in grant funding in FY23

  • Collaborating with leading programs including Precision Medicine, the Center for Exercise Medicine, Preventive Medicine, the Lakeshore Foundation, and the UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC)

  • Contributing to scholarship in areas such as Precision Medicine, Value-Based Care, Digital Health, Lifestyle & Exercise Medicine, POCUS, and Leadership in Medicine


Qualifications

Required

  • Board-certified MD or DO

  • Eligibility for a full-time, twelve-month faculty appointment

  • Rank and salary will be based on experience and qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications for Residency Program Faculty

  • Experience in graduate medical education

  • Prior involvement in residency development and accreditation

  • Familiarity with ACGME standards and compliance

  • Strong commitment to mentoring and supporting residents
