Position Overview

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a dedicated physician to provide high-quality care within the Pediatric Emergency Medicine division during overnight shifts. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic academic medical environment, contribute to resident and medical student education, and support departmental excellence through clinical service, collaboration, and participation in quality initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to pediatric emergency patients during overnight shifts

  • Supervise and teach emergency medicine residents, pediatric residents, and medical students

  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and committee activities

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation

  • Attend department meetings, educational conferences, and training sessions

  • Assist with trauma resuscitations and critical care stabilization

  • Provide consultations to other hospital departments as needed


Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution

  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine

  • Current Virginia medical license or eligibility to obtain one

  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications

  • Completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine residency

  • Demonstrated ability to work in and promote an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with individuals from diverse backgrounds—or a commitment to doing so as a VCU employee


Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine

  • Experience within an academic medical center

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records

  • Research experience or publications

  • Prior teaching experience with residents or medical students
