Position Overview
The Director of Didactic Education is a core faculty position in the Physician Assistant (PA) Program at UT Tyler Health Science Center. This role provides leadership for the design, delivery, and assessment of the didactic phase of the PA curriculum, ensuring alignment with ARC-PA Standards and the PAEA Core Curriculum. The Director works closely with the Program Director, faculty, and staff to promote student success, curriculum excellence, and continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Didactic Education Leadership

Oversee all aspects of the didactic phase of the PA curriculum.

Collaborate with faculty to develop, implement, and evaluate courses and instructional methods.

Ensure compliance with ARC-PA Standards, program learning outcomes, and best practices in PA education.

Monitor student performance, identify students in need of remediation, and provide support to ensure progression.

Lead curriculum mapping, exam review, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Integrate active learning methods, clinical reasoning, interprofessional education, and simulation into the curriculum.

Coordinate course schedules, lectures, and faculty assignments.

Serve as a primary resource for student questions and concerns regarding didactic learning.
Core Faculty Responsibilities

Teach and assess students in assigned didactic courses.

Serve as academic advisor and mentor to PA students.

Participate in admissions, faculty meetings, and program committees.

Contribute to program assessment, accreditation, and self-study efforts.

Engage in scholarly activity and professional development.

Support the program mission to prepare PAs for diverse healthcare settings, including underserved communities.
Qualifications
Required
-
Graduate of an accredited PA program.
-
NCCPA certified and eligible for state licensure.
-
Masterโs degree.
-
3โ5 years of clinical practice experience.

Knowledge of ARC-PA standards and curriculum design.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
-
Commitment to student success and collaborative faculty environment.
Preferred
-
Doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, EdD, DMSc, or equivalent).

Previous teaching experience in PA education.

Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and exam design.

Proficiency in innovative teaching methods (simulation, case-based, team-based learning).

Engagement with professional organizations (e.g., PAEA, AAPA).
