Position Overview

Stony Brook Medicine invites applications for a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) Clinical Instructor in Otolaryngology (ENT). This role is integral to the inpatient ENT team, collaborating closely with attending surgeons, residents, and hospital staff to manage hospitalized and consult patients effectively.

The Clinical Instructor will provide hands-on patient care, perioperative support, education, and participate in departmental initiatives while promoting excellence in clinical practice and professional development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily inpatient rounds with residents and attending physicians.

  • Conduct inpatient evaluations, post-operative assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries using the EMR.

  • Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and interdisciplinary communication.

  • Respond to ENT consults from inpatient and emergency departments.

  • Perform or assist with bedside ENT procedures (e.g., flexible laryngoscopy, nasal endoscopy, epistaxis control, tracheostomy care, abscess drainage).

  • Provide perioperative support and first-assist in the operating room as needed.

  • Support resident education by teaching procedural skills and inpatient workflows.

  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects.


Qualifications

Required

For Nurse Practitioners:

  • Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Nursing.

  • Current RN registration in New York State.

  • Minimum 1 year post-licensure nursing experience.

  • At least 1 year experience working with pediatric patients.

For Physician Assistants:

  • NYS license and NCCPA certification.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited PA program (or foreign equivalent).

  • Minimum 1 year experience working with pediatric patients.

Preferred

  • Experience in fast-paced medical practices.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR).


Special Notes

  • Tenure/Non-Tenure Track; FLSA Exempt.

  • Start date: As soon as possible.

  • Candidates must pass a background investigation.
