The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our clinical faculty as an Instructor. This role focuses on inpatient care for patients with a wide range of neurosurgical conditions, including spine, cranial, endovascular, vascular, and stereotactic disorders.
As a faculty member, the APP will also have opportunities for professional development, including precepting medical learners, educating nursing and medical staff, participating in quality and safety improvement projects, engaging in clinical research, and mentoring residents and junior APPs.
Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive and episodic patient assessments and manage inpatient neurosurgical cases.

Establish diagnoses, order and interpret diagnostic studies, perform therapeutic procedures, and manage follow-up care per written physician practice agreements or protocols.

Prescribe medications and monitor patient responses.

Perform perioperative management and first-assist in surgeries as appropriate.

Admit patients, order labs and imaging, and formulate treatment plans.

Document clinical encounters accurately and maintain continuity of care through effective communication with healthcare team members.

Function as a clinical leader and educator for physicians, nurses, and APPs.

Participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.

Attend specialty conferences, training sessions, and board review courses.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Advanced Practice Nursing (Acute Care NP) or Physician Assistant program.

Current license to practice in Colorado as an APP (NP or PA) with prescriptive authority.

National certification as an APN or PA.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Up to 1 year of inpatient or outpatient care experience.

Experience assisting in neurosurgical procedures.

Ability to care for high-acuity, high-complexity patients.

Strong teamwork and communication skills within an APP/Physician/Resident care model.
