Adjunct/Part-Time Assistant/Associate Professor โ€“ Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) Program

The University of Lynchburg, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, invites applications for a part-time (12-month), non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position. This role supports the DMSc program, providing doctoral-level education for Physician Assistants seeking to advance their academic credentials, with a focus on leadership and advanced clinical medicine.

The selected candidate will engage in teaching, scholarship, and service, collaborate with local healthcare agencies, and participate in professional organizations at regional, state, national, and international levels.


Key Responsibilities

Program Administration & Curriculum:

  • Assist the DMSc Program Director and Associate Director with program administration, planning, and review.

  • Support development, review, and revision of the school and DMSc mission statements.

  • Participate in curriculum design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation.

  • Serve as Course Director or Course/Concentration Lead for assigned DMSc courses.

  • Contribute to the growth of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences through curriculum and program development.

  • Assist with course scheduling, faculty selection, and student remediation.

  • Maintain course materials, learning objectives, and exam security.

  • Assist with curriculum assessment and review each semester.

Teaching & Mentorship:

  • Teach online DMSc courses within areas of expertise.

  • Teach hybrid Master of PA Medicine courses combining onsite and online instruction where feasible.

  • Mentor and advise students in masterโ€™s and doctoral research projects.

  • Review academic performance, provide remediation, and advise on student behavior, academic performance, or professionalism concerns.

Service & Professional Engagement:

  • Attend weekly faculty and committee meetings.

  • Assist in coordination and assessment of adjunct faculty.

  • Participate in DMSc program committees.

  • Uphold the values and mission of the University of Lynchburg.


Qualifications

Required:

  • NCCPA-certified Physician Assistant

  • Virginia PA license or licensure in the state of residence

  • Doctoral degree in a health-related field

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience

  • Experience teaching in a PA program, medical school, or clinical instruction

  • Experience developing or managing online curriculum

  • Experience working with multi-cultural and multi-lingual students and healthcare providers

  • Commitment to underserved populations and improving healthcare access

Required Attendance:

  • Weekly onsite faculty/committee meetings
