Position Overview

The Department of Biology in the College of Science and Technology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Pharmacology, beginning August 2026. Exceptional applicants may be considered for a higher rank.

We seek a scholar who can build a collaborative, innovative research program in pharmacology and/or toxicology, focusing on areas such as animal models and therapy, molecular biology and signal transduction, systems biology, pharmacogenetics, toxicogenetics, precision medicine, drug development, and target validation — particularly with an emphasis on reducing health disparities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, research mentorship, and service. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate biology courses, developing curricula, advising students, overseeing research at the MS and PhD levels, and participating in departmental, college, and university activities.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional

  • Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students.

  • Evaluate and grade coursework, assignments, and exams.

  • Maintain course materials, including syllabi, handouts, and homework.

  • Lead classroom discussions and maintain student records.

  • Hold regular office hours to advise and support students.

  • Plan and revise curricula and instructional methods as needed.

Research

  • Develop and maintain a competitive research program in pharmacology, toxicology, and related fields.

  • Secure extramural funding through grant writing.

  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.

  • Remain current by engaging with scientific literature and professional organizations.

Administrative & Service

  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers.

  • Supervise teaching assistants, interns, and student research.

  • Collaborate with industry and community partners to enhance learning opportunities.

  • Serve on academic and administrative committees.

  • Participate in recruitment, registration events, and student organizations.

  • Maintain course websites and participate in campus/community activities.

About the Department and College

North Carolina A&T State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research institution committed to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Science and Technology, with over 2,500 enrolled students, is experiencing significant growth in faculty, enrollment, research, and academic programs.

The Department of Biology, housed in Barnes Hall, supports over 866 undergraduates, approximately 20 master’s students, and 30 PhD students within the Applied Science and Technology program.
